      • Recovery is the Key to Getting Stronger

How the "stress, recovery, adaptation cycle" works

        1

        Lift Weights

"Stress" is applied by lifting weights in the gym, using the Starting Strength model, under the guidance of a coach.

        2

        Eat and Sleep

"Recovery" occurs by eating sufficient protein and enough overall calories to build tissue and support body composition goals. Sleep 7+ hours per night.

        3

        Get Stronger

An optimal training stress with adequate nutrition will result in a strength "adaptation" which means lean tissue growth and improved body composition.

        4

        Repeat the Process

Get coaching at a Starting Strength Gym to optimize the "stress" and "recovery" aspects of training to make rapid progress.

      • Frequently Asked Questions

        What results should I expect?

Male novices that follow the Starting Strength program and recover with adequate nutrition can expect to gain at least one pound of lean tissue per week for several months. Women should expect to gain around a 1/2 pound of lean tissue per week. Overweight novices can expect to reduce their bodyfat percentage as they run through the Novice Linear Progression. Underweight novices can expect to optimize their body composition for strength and size.

I want to lose weight, is this program for me?

This program is for strength trainees. If you're new to strength training, overweight, and are interested in losing fat while getting stronger, this program is for you. If you've completed the Novice Linear Progression and are wanting to reduce body-fat while getting stronger or maintaining strength, this program is for you.

Do I need to be a member at a Starting Strength Gym to get nutrition coaching?

No, but you must be a strength trainee and on a Starting Strength program.

I have medical issues, is this program for me?

Contact us to discuss getting coaching from a registered dietitian that's qualified to offer dietary advice to trainees with medical conditions: info @ startingstrengthgyms.com

Is there a term-contract? How long does the program last?

There are no term-contracts. Stay for as long as the coaching is valuable to you. The program is ongoing and is phased based on your level of nutrition knowledge and training advancement.
